Community Service

A particularly important commitment of the America's Boating Club of Sanibel–Captiva is Community Service. Whether through volunteering time, donating much-needed items, or supporting other non-profits, our members contribute significantly to Sanibel-Captiva and its surrounding communities.

Our Legacy Programs of Volunteerism have been in place for years and have impacted the lives of generations of boaters. These include providing Vessel Safety Checks, teaching at the Sanibel School, and hosting on-the-water Education cruises. These programs are so much a part of our organization that participating is almost automatic.

Yet in so many ways, we also reach out to support other non-profits throughout the region:

A Holiday tradition is the Toy Drive for the kids connected to the Harlem Heights Foundation.
Another tradition has been collecting gently-used eyeglasses for the Lions Club.
A few times each year, members collect food donations for the local pantry at F.I.S.H.
Each March, we collect member donations for the March of Dimes.
Each year, we boat to Picnic Island for a community cleanup — collecting an amazing assortment of garbage from our local waters.
Of particular importance to our members is our connection to Captains for Clean Waters, a growing organization committed to keeping our surrounding waters clean.

Quite honestly, the list is quite long. As a result of our extensive Community Service, in 2017 — and for several years prior — our club was honored at the national level by Boat US for its distinguished work in civic service.
